Meta Bauer

Art/theory

Ute Meta Bauer has worked for more than twenty-five years as a curator of exhibitions and presentations on contemporary art, film, video, and sound, with a focus on transdisciplinary formats. She has recently been appointed Dean of the School of Fine Art at the Royal College of Art in London. Up until assuming her position in September 2012, she serves as Associate Professor and Founding Director of the Program in Art, Culture, and Technology at MIT's School of Architecture and Planning; she also served as director of the MIT Visual Arts Program from 2005 to 2009. From 1996 to 2006 she held an appointment at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna as a Professor of Theory and Practice of Contemporary Art. Between 1999 and 2002 she was a co-curator of Documenta 11. Bauer is also a member of the Administrative Board of nbk - Neuer Berliner Kunstverein, Germany; and serves on the Scientific Advisory Boards of the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation, Germany, and of the ZERO Foundation, Düsseldorf.
